Secret Facebook Pixel Optimisation Strategy 2020

Now – let me get down to business.

This hair extension company ran out of a salon in Texas. Before working with us, they had no converting funnel, had never tested ads, and most of their sales came from retail.

They came to us because they were desperate to crack the online space profitably. At the time, they had zero data or experience, and not much of an idea with where to start.

That’s when we took over and quickly scaled them… which I’ll explain in this post.

So… let me explain the strategy we executed to generate this result for our client.

Firstly, we did something that some marketers would probably call… ‘weird’. Now – what do I mean by that exactly?

Well, it’s a common strategy in eCommerce to optimise your conversions based on the people who buy your product.

Marketers do this with the Facebook Pixel so their ads get shown to more people most likely to buy.

And in most instances… it’s a sound strategy.

However – in this case, we did the exact opposite.

Given that we were running ads to cold traffic, we optimised for “Add to Cart” instead of “Purchases”.

Now… why would we do this?

Well – hair extensions are a high ticket eCommerce product, starting at $300 and going up from there.

So we didn’t expect to have a ton of cold traffic buy the product the first time they saw it.

But if we were able to build a custom audience and then lookalike audience, or people that had added the product to cart and were highly interested in it, we knew the campaign would be successful.

So here’s what happened:

We ran ads to cold traffic that were optimised for add to cart. This ad showed a video of different well known influencers putting the extensions in, which added value to the audience and demonstrated solid proof.

As mentioned, our goal here was to make sales, but also pixel as much of the audience as possible – so we could feed the top of the funnel with new lookalike audiences.

Now, with just running this video ad, our ROAS was 1.03x, and after the cost of goods was factored in, we were actually losing money to cold traffic.

But this is where things got crazy:

After the value video ad, we retargeted with an ad asking the audience to come back and complete their purchase.

This ad had a more direct call to action, specifically to drive conversions.

And that’s where the magic happened:

By retargeting our audience of prospects that had either added to cart, or were in the lookalike audience, we were able to generate insane returns for the client.

The average ROAS across the entire campaign, including the first ad that lost money, and our different retargeting ads, was 3.64x… pretty crazy when you consider this is a high ticket beauty product, and the traffic source was ice cold.

I attached a livestream I did reporting on the results from the first three weeks of this campaign alone, and it’s mind blowing!

Overall, this campaign strategy scaled this hair extensions brand from $17k / mth to $62k / mth in an incredibly quick time.

The client is a global supplement company based in Europe. They hadn’t run any Facebook traffic when we started working together, as they had purely focused on monetising their organic audience.

This is when they reached out to DimNiko.com to start generating sales using paid marketing.

Here’s how we did it:

⚙️Top of Funnel

The client was selling a health supplement that combined a mixture of superfoods to allow consumers to get all the vital nutrients for their diet in one drink.

To position the product as the solution to their problem, we had the client create a top of funnel value video revealing the 10 top health superfoods everyone needs in their diet.

At the end of this video, the product was offered for sale below the video – on the same page.

Now – the best part about this was the video offered so much value, that we were able to generate a 2.5x ROAS from cold traffic and liquidate our ad costs.

We created lookalike audiences based on the prospects that watched 75% of this video, so we could feed the top of funnel with relevant audiences – which I’ll get to in a moment.

Given the high value delivered in the video & using our DimNiko.com traffic generation strategy, we were able to get massive engagement and shares on the ad & video, further driving traffic to the funnel for minimal spend.

⚙️Middle of Funnel:

Product Ads were launched and targeted those people that:

? Watched 75% of the video 
? Engaged with the ad 
? Landed on the landing page

This drove sales to prospects who’d had a single touch point with the brand, allowing us to monetise the campaign before starting the next phase.

⚙️Bottom of Funnel:

Now – here’s where things really got interesting.

We used what we call “Sequential Retargeting” to drive a huge ROI and scale to €120,000 / month in MRR.

Most rookie marketers make the mistake of ONLY retargeting based on percentage of a video watched… rather than using the full suite of sequential retargeting options. 
Because here’s the thing:

It’s obvious that every customer doesn’t buy for the same reason. Some will react best to testimonials, some will prefer influencer reviews, others will buy based on an authority article.

So we spaced all of these out over TIME to generate the best results for our client.

Here’s what the retargeting audience saw on each day:

Day 1 – 3: Testimonial Ads 
Day 4 – 5: Authority Article for Social Proof (this is majorly underrated as it builds tonnes of rapport. The goal is not to drive sales, but we link to a 3rd party article to enhance the client’s reputation) 
Day 6 – 8: Influencer Reviews 
Day 9 – 10: Click to Messenger Ads

And then, over the top of all of these ads, we run:

1) Strong CTA straight to the sales page: “come back and buy / forgot something? Ad” 
2) Dynamic Product Ads – showing the products based on the prospects on-site behaviour

The benefit of having a retargeting sequence like this is you can increase your ROI by reaching prospects with different types of ads, that appeal to different people.

In a 30 day window, this company was able to scale their revenue to €120,000 in sales.

All of these sales were subscription based, meaning that this revenue would continue to come in month after month… pretty cool huh?

Oh and just for the record – the ad spend for this 30 day period was €39,273.24 – giving a ROAS of just over 3x.

The client is a streetwear clothing brand based in Melbourne, Australia. When we started working together, they were generating $30k / month.

Instead, by using humour, we created virality and drove a truckload of engagement at ridiculously low prices.

The result of this was an insanely low cost per view, and massive audiences built at very little cost.

To make these meme videos more relevant, the people featured in the videos wore the brand’s clothes, to simultaneously introduce cold traffic to the company and the products they offer.

Now, nothing I’ve said so far is revolutionary, I know that.

But here’s what happened next…

Middle of Funnel:

We built a custom audience of anyone who watched 75% of the first video.

At this point, video viewers who watched 75% of the first video & lookalike audiences were retargeted with a video that explained the concept of the brand.

This video was more serious, revealed the brand story and inspired viewers to get involved with the company mission, using a specific video formula we’ve tested and proven after working in 34 different niches.

But here’s the really cool part, where “AV Sequencing” comes into the campaign:

We got the same people from the meme video to be featured in the brand concept video.

On top of that, they wore the EXACT same clothes, to build familiarity and relevancy with the prospects that watched the meme video.
